What is concrete paint?
Concrete surfaces are in demand both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, concrete walls give rooms a loft character, while outdoors they create a modern look.
Concrete paint is a special coating that protects concrete surfaces and cement slurry indoors and outdoors and gives them an attractive appearance. The crack-bridging coating prevents moisture from penetrating, protects against mechanical impact and UV damage, and can even prevent moss or mold growth when biocides are included. Welche Farbe eignet sich für Beton?

Es gibt zwei Arten: 1K und 2K Betonfarben. 2K Farben sind meist mit Epoxidharz versetzt. Hierbei besteht der Anstrich aus zwei Komponenten, die erst beim Mischen miteinander reagieren. Letztere überzeugt mit einer langen Beständigkeit und ist leicht zu reinigen. Die Epoxidharz Betonfarbe ist zudem eine umweltfreundliche Methode und schon nach einer kurzen Zeit der Trocknung stark belastbar.
Die Farbe der Beschichtung hängt vom persönlichen Geschmack ab. Gängig ist hier eine Auswahl an RAL-Farben, wenn ein farbiger Anstrich gewünscht ist. Ob Anthrazitgrau, Rapsgelb, Tomatenrot, Terracotta, Tiefschwarz, Feuerrot, Enzianblau oder Laubgrün – entscheidend ist, dass dir der Anstrich hinterher gefällt. Damit Betonwände, Betonuntergründe und Betonböden zuverlässig versiegelt werden und damit starken Belastung durch unterschiedliche Umwelteinflüsse standhalten können, müssen sich diese in ihrer Zusammensetzung für den jeweiligen Einsatzzweck eignen. Betonfarbe für den Außenbereich ist in der Regel mit Bioziden versetzt. Diese sorgen dafür, dass der Betonuntergrund im Außenbereich vor Schimmel sowie Algen- und Moosbildung geschützt wird. Bei Bioziden handelt es sich jedoch um gesundheitlich bedenkliche Stoffe, die die Umwelt belasten. Daher sollten diese in der Regel nur sparsam auf den Betonuntergrund verwendet werden und keinesfalls in Innenräumen zur Anwendung kommen.
Im Innenraum sollte Betonfarbe gesundheitlich unbedenklich und diffusionsoffen sein, damit entstehende Feuchtigkeit, die sich an den Wänden niederschlägt, entweichen kann. What should you consider when buying concrete paint?
Substrate
Concrete paint is suitable for walls and floors. You can also coat all structural elements made of concrete with these paints. In principle, concrete coatings can be used on all mineral surfaces. However, good preparation is essential.
Durability
Especially outdoors, the paint must be weather-resistant and prevent moss and mould growth. It is also important that it is breathable to allow flawless moisture exchange. You should likewise pay attention to UV resistance, which prevents cracks in the material. On garage floors, resistance to mechanical stress must be ensured.
gloss level
The sheen level indicates how much light is reflected. It does not affect the protective properties of the paint, so you can choose purely according to your taste. There are matt finishes (dead matt, matt or satin matt) and glossy finishes (gloss or high gloss). Keep in mind that dirt is more visible on glossy surfaces than on matt coatings.
shade
Here it’s similar to the gloss level: anything you like is allowed. The paint is available in numerous RAL colors. Classics are mostly various shades of gray and silver, or white and black. This gives you the opportunity to bring a breath of fresh air into your home.

Step 1: Cleaning, sanding and repairs
First, the substrate must be optimally prepared. This means that old coatings must be removed and any contamination cleaned off. There must be no dust, dirt, or oil or grease stains left on the surface. Use a wire brush, sandblaster or pressure washer to remove old layers. Then fill and repair cracks, dents and gaps using a leveling compound or epoxy mortar. After the leveling compound has dried sufficiently, sand down the filled areas so that any unevenness disappears.
Step 2: Primer? (optional)
Primers and undercoats may be necessary for certain products. A primer ensures optimal adhesion of the paint. Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the container. For most paints this is not required, but it does no harm either. In damp rooms, a sealing coat can be a sensible option.
White stands for clarity, purity, and spaciousness. In a bedroom, this base color conveys a feeling of freshness and order, but it can also appear cool. Combined with warm accents, however, white creates a calm, relaxing atmosphere and makes the room look larger. Our tip: Choose colorful or patterned bedding to counteract a sterile look.
Surfaces that are not to be painted should be masked off with plastic sheeting. This protects them from paint splashes and drips.
Pigments often settle at the bottom of the container. Stir the concrete paint thoroughly so the pigments are evenly distributed and you achieve a beautiful finish. Then start applying the paint with a roller or a paint sprayer. The latter has the advantage of being quick and easy to use, providing an even coat and a professional result. When using several containers, make sure they are from the same batch.
Then allow the surface to dry thoroughly. In most cases, several coats of floor paint are necessary.
